Vasava, who is right now expressing his ire against the Central government, will be on a fast on February 23 and 24 at Kanjivandri village of the district's Dediapada taluka. He has taken this step in support of tribals of around 50 villages at Surpaneshwar sanctuary, after the Centre allegedly failed to provide them with basic amenities.
There are various issues such as health, education and roads, which have been neglected in the villages of the sanctuary for many years, said Vasava, adding that he had made several demands to the Centre in this regard but all had gone in vain.
"When I made written pleas to the Central government (for development), I was told that most of the villages lie in the sanctuary area and no intervention is allowed in national parks and sanctuaries," he said.
Pointing out to the pitiable condition of tribals during the monsoon due to the lack of approach roads, Vasava emphasised on the need for resolving some basic amenities necessary for them. "During monsoon, generally there is an increase in vector-borne diseases. And due to bad approach roads in villages, it becomes difficult for tribals to reach local primary health centres," he said. The MP further said, "In the absence of transportation facility, the tribals have to use temporary stretchers to carry the sick from his village to the outskirts for medical aid."
Vasava went on to say that if the road problem was resolved, health would be resolved inevitably.
