Chandigarh “When the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is voted to power, it will formulate a policy to ensure that land is acquired only if there is an emergency. The system of acquiring land at cheap rates from farmers and selling it at high prices would be stopped,” said BJP candidate from the city Satya Pal Jain while addressing newly elected sarpanches and panches of the UT villages.

Jain said that while 10 villages have come under the Municipal Corporation, the remaining 12 would soon be developed as model villages.

Punjab Cooperation Minister Captain Kanwaljit, while addressing the gathering, said the bureaucracy in the city exerts too much influence. While training guns at the current parliamentarian from the city, Kanwaljit said the Congress has been “looting” people.

“In Chandigarh, power is in the hands of the Congress. Yet, they express their inability in doing anything,” added the minister.
