Kolkata The Forward Bloc is spearheading an agitation in Jalpaiguri demanding a Circuit Bench of the Calcutta High Court.

Bloc activists had started round-the-clock protest from January 4 on the premises of the Circuit Bench near the Zilla Parishad office at Jalpaiguri.

According to a HC source, the proposed circuit bench cannot be opened without the final consent of the Chief Justice of the HC.

Debaprasad Roy, Congress MLA of Jalpaiguri, said he had received a letter from Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily a month ago on the proposed circuit bench. Moily had stated that the Union law ministry could announce opening of the Bench if the Calcutta High Court gave its nod.
