BLSP launches its Ludhiana chapter

Ludhiana, March 2 Bharat Lok Shiksha Parishad on Sunday launched its Ludhiana chapter under Ekal Vidyalaya Yojna in a ceremony held at Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology. The chapter will cater to Ferozepur district, where as many as 240 Ekal schools are being run by the parishad at present.

“We will complete one Anchal that consists of 270 Ekal schools under Ekal Vidyalaya Abhiyan,” said Manjushree, national organising secretary of Ekal Abhiyan, at a press conference at Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology.

Dr Yashpal Lakra, officer bearer of Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation in the USA, who was also present on the occasion said that this would be the first chapter in the state of Punjab. Manjushree added that the organisation aimed to open one lakh such schools in order to provide elementary education to very poor sections of the society in the remote villages of the country by 2011.

“At present, there are 24,006 Ekal Vidyayalayas are being run by us and each school costs us Rs 16,000 per annum. Also as many as 11,450 Arogya Vikas Kendras and 4270 in the country are catering to 72, 0182 students all over,” said Manjushree.
