Blueline runs over scooterist in S Delhi

New Delhi, March 5 A 36-year-old was run over by a speeding Blueline bus on the Moolchand underpass this afternoon, police said. This is the 15th fatal accident involving a Blueline this year.

According to police, the victim was on his way to his office on his scooter at 1.30 pm. The bus, which was running on the Mudrika route, was overtaking other vehicles.

The driver accelerated the bus after crossing a red light, police said. “While the bus was overtaking a car, the driver did not notice the scooter in front of it and hit it,” a senior police officer said.

Batra lost control of his bike and fell on the road, headfirst. His helmet split open because of the impact, and he sustained head injuries, police said.

The bus driver applied the brakes and halted the bus, a few inches away from Batra. Batra was rushed to AIIMS Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Bystanders caught hold of the bus driver, Balwan Singh (45), and handed him over to the police. Singh is a resident of Hari Nagar.
