The decision was taken at an official meeting of the Junior Doctors’ Association of the BMC on Sunday. Over 350 junior doctors from Baroda will now go on a strike along with their counterparts in other cities. “We have given an official intimation to the college authorities on Monday for carrying out the protest,” said Dr Virag Damania of the association.
The doctors are demanding a raise in the monthly stipend so that it matches the amount paid to doctors in Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Delhi. At present, the junior doctors are paid a monthly amount of about Rs 10,000 as compared to Rs 20,000 given in other states.
The Junior Doctors’ Association is yet to finalise the course of action of the protest.
“We are fully supporting the protest, but we will see to it that there is no disruption in our routine duty at the hospital. We are yet to decide on the plan of action for tomorrow,”Damania added.
Atul Saxena, the superintendent of Sir Sayajirao General (SSG) Hospital, said, “We will make some internal arrangements in the functioning of the hospital so inconvenience to the patients is avoided.”
