Mumbai The Mumbai police and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) inquiry committee on Tuesday submitted their reports before the Bombay High Court in the Sion baby theft case.

While the BMC submitted a report filed by the dean of Nair Hospital for fixing responsibility on the person concerned, the police showed their progress report in tracing the baby and the culprit. The confidential reports have been submitted in sealed envelopes before the division bench of Justice Bilal Nazki and Justice A R Joshi.

In the last hearing, City Police Commissioner Hasan Gafoor had assured that all possible steps have been taken to trace the baby who went missing from Sion hospital last month. Gafoor, who was present in the court, had submitted that a Special Investigation Team has been constituted under DCP (Zone IV) to trace the missing baby.

The BMC had informed the court that an inquiry committee headed by the Dean of Nair Hospital has been constituted to fix the responsibility in the case.

Thirteen days after a baby boy was stolen from the civic- run Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital’s maternity ward, parents of the baby had filed a habeas corpus petition in the Bombay High Court after facing dejection from all quarters. In the petition, the family —Mohan and Mohini Nerulkar— has sought response from the hospital, state government and the police investigating the matter.
