Mumbai Apart from making life difficult for commuters, the ongoing transport strike has hit the city’s octroi too. With ongoing economic meltdown affecting the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) highest earning department, the strike has added to their woes. Due to the transport strike, the Octroi department has seen 25% reduction in vehicle entry in the city. Officials said since the strike began, on an average there are 500 less vehicles coming via the octroi nakas. Since the payment of cash has begun through debit slips, officials could not provide the figures for revenue loss. They, however, said income has dipped by 5%. Although the civic administration was not able to give figures on crude oil, petrol, diesel and other fuel due to the strike, Joint Municipal Commissioner V Radha said crude oil import in the city was also affected last December. When compared to December 2007, last month’s figures for crude oil dropped considerably. “The total crude oil import for December 2007 was Rs 145.68 cr while that of last month was only Rs 86.27 crore,” she said.
