The last show at Bodhi Berlin is an exhibition of Pablo Bartholomew’s photographs taken during the filming of Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi — a fitting closure to the Bodhi branch that has shown the works of Riyas Komu and Shilpa Gupta. Bodhi, which shut down its Gurgaon space in November last year and is renting space for its exhibitions in the National Capital Region, is shutting down its New York branch as well.
“Any business today has to refocus their strategies. Consolidation rather than expansion is the key,” says Sharmistha Ray, manager of Bodhi Art Mumbai, adding that Europe and the US are both badly hit by the recession and “it is unreal to expect us to not get affected by it”. Bodhi is owned by the reclusive Delhi-based businessman and collector, Amit Judge. (EFS)
