The bodies of Iqbal (35) and Nazir Rathod (30), both residents of Napa village, were stuffed into sacks with bricks and tiles. According to the post-mortem report, the two were tortured before being killed. The police said that both the brothers had disappeared on January 19 when they were visiting Ahmedabad with a friend, who is the prime suspect.
Police sub-inspector P B Rana said the two had left for Ahmedabad with one Dholia from Thamda village in their Indica car. “The family filed a complaint with the police a day later after several attempts to contact them on their mobile phone failed. The families even searched for them in nearby villages,” he said, adding that the Rathods were con artists and have cases registered against them in Anand as well as other districts of the state.
So far, the police have made a little progress in the case and are yet to find the car and the exact reason for their trip to Ahmedabad. Meanwhile, police teams have been formed to take statements from Thamda and Napa.
“We checked at toll booths around the district as well as police outposts about the car they used, but nothing concrete has been found as yet,” Rana said. The case was transferred to the Local Crime Branch on February 2.
