Kolkata An abandoned box lying near the emergency ward caused a bomb scare at the SSKM Hospital on Sunday morning.

The bomb disposal squad of the Kolkata police, however, later found the box contained two small pencil batteries connected to a wire.

“Perhaps someone put the used cells in the box. The authorities immediately called the bomb disposal squad. Even the nearby vehicles were checked and nothing was found to be suspicious,” said an investigation officer.

PTTI crisis led woman to kill self
Twenty-four-year-old PTTI trainee from Bankura district who committed suicide on October 20 took the extreme step owing to depression over the PTTI crisis, her family members said on Sunday.

Jamuna Saren’s father, Jharu Saren, said his daughter was upset over the last few months with the stalemate over the validity of PTTI degrees after she had applied as a primary teacher.

Representatives of the PTTI students union said she is the second person from Bankura district to commit suicide. Last September Ashok Laha, another PTTI trainee, killed himself because of depression over the PTTI stalemate.

PTTI students’ union who had blocked the Chief Minister’s convoy last Friday has threatened more protests if the state and the Centre did not solve the crisis.
