Mumbai, February 7 As the city is witnessing record breaking low temperatures since past few days, for the school kids, it was a perfect time to experience bonfire. Wearing colourful sweaters and mufflers, around 1,200 students of Balak Mandir Sanstha’s primary school in Kalyan gathered around a bonfire that was lit in the school premises on Thursday morning.

“As their is chill in the air, this is the best time when students can understand the importance of bonfire. In an agriculture-dominated country like ours, where many people cannot afford woollen clothes, bonfire is the cheapest way to keep yourself warm,” said school principal Sindu Hewale.

“We had organised this activity in batches for students of class I-IV,” added Hewale. Demonstrations were also organised to show how meal is cooked in a traditional way using wood in rural areas.

Meanwhile, after the MET department recorded the lowest temperature in over four decades Thursday’s minimum temperature has risen. It was recorded at 13.7 degree Celsius, CVV Bhadram, a met department officials said. He added that the cold conditions are expected to continue for the next three-four days.
