Kolkata Eighteen students, who are preparing for the Madhyamik Examination, had lost their books and study materials in the fire at Ultadanga last week. But today, teachers of various government schools took the first step to ensure the children did not go for the exams unprepared.

Two tutorial classes of two hours were conducted for these students at Bidhannagar Government High School and were given books and other essentials.

Bappa Sardar, a Class X student of Deshbandhu School in Muraripukur, was given new note books and stationery. He attended the two classes of Mathematics and English. “The classes were extremely helpful. We will attend all the other classes,” he said.

Today Uttam Hatui and Somendranath Datta, teachers from Hindu School and Hare School respectively, took classes in Mathematics while Parna Chowdhury and Amit Sen of Banipur BCM School and Calcutta Anglo-Persian Department took English classes. More government school teachers are keen to guide these students.

“The classes will be there for four hours in two batches till January 31. If the students are keen we are ready to extend classes beyond that in February before the examination begins,” said Dipak Das, the general secretary of West Bengal Government Schools Teachers Association (WBGCTA).

He said other students from the locality have also shown interest in attending the classes. “We will accommodate them,” he said.
