The decision was taken at a high-level meeting here today attended by top police officers of the state, including the superintendents of police of all bordering districts. It was also decided that the UP police will work in close co-ordination with the Shashastra Seema Bal (SSB) to foil any bid by the criminal elements to create disturbance ahead of the April 10 polls there.
Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Brij Lal admitted that it was practically impossible for the police to seal the border completely. He, however, said, “We will restrict the movement of the people through the porous border.”
Recalling the influx of Madhesis into the country in November last year after they clashed with the Maoists there, a police officer who was present in the meeting said: “Madhesies have their relatives in the Indian side. We have been asked to keep a close eye on the fresh developments in such areas that are close to our border. Accordingly, we will take our decision to keep the situation under control in our side.”
While necessary instructions have been given to the concerned police officers in the bordering districts, it was also decided that senior officers would hold meeting at police stations in the bordering areas. Frequency of border patrolling will also be increased.
“Homeguards, jawans and chowkidars will also be used to strengthen the information system in such areas,” Lal replied to a question on improving the intelligence system.
On the plan to engage the PAC, he said they would undertake patrolling at such places that are considered to be sensitive in view of the elections in Nepal.
“We will identify all such flash points. Besides, we will also intensify vehicle checking in the Indian side of border areas,” the ADG added. At the meeting, the security situation at Gauri Fanta, Katarniya Ghat (Kheri district), Rupandiha (Behraich district), Jarwa (Balrampur), Badhani (Siddarthnagar) and Sonauli entry points was also reviewed.
