Boxing Academy dedicated to Olympic champion

Faizabad Pugilist Akhil Kumar who had defeated world champion in Beijing Olympics was felicitated at his ancestral village Bikapur in Faizabad on Monday.

The local BSP legislator Jitendra Singh Bablu announced setting up of a boxing academy and a multi-purpose sports stadium in Faizabad dedicated to Kumar.

More than two thousand people had gathered to witness the felicitation ceremony at Bikapur which was organised by the MLA.

Bablu said that Rs 17 lakh and Rs 20 lakh will be allotted for the stadium and the academy, respectively, from his local area development fund.

The MLA also laid a foundation stone for a cement concrete road that will connect Kumar’s ancestral village Bairavpur Tikra in Bikapur tehsil to Faizabad-Allahabad national highway.

Kumar said that he was fully prepared for the forthcoming Common Wealth Games in New Delhi and world championship in Milan.
