BPL families to be trained for self-employment

Mayor Pardeep Chhabra today inaugurated a two-day exhibition-cum-sale of products manufactured by BP Mayor Pardeep Chhabra today inaugurated a two-day exhibition-cum-sale of products manufactured by BPL trainees under the Swaran Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojna (SJSRY), at the Community Centre in Sector 15. Products such as pots, soft toys, fabric paintings, emboss paintings, clothing material are being displayed at the exhibition.

Trainees from different colonies of the city are being trained under the SJSRY in association with NGOs like Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS), North India Technical Consultancy Organisation (NITCON), Lions Club (Mid Town), Lions Club (Greater) and Surya Foundation.

After inaugurating the exhibition, the Mayor assured that the Municipal Corporation would provide a platform to all BPL families for training of different vocational courses and organise exhibitions in all community centres of the city to sell their products.

“The main objective of the SJSRY is to provide Skill Development Training to BPL beneficiaries so that they can look forward to self employment,” said the Mayor while appreciating the efforts of NITCON.

NITCON chief consultant Balbir Singh, along with programme-coordinator Geeta Tandon, informed about the various vocational courses being run and the products being prepared by the trainees. Joint Municipal Commissioner-I, TPS Phoolka accompanied the Mayor.
