“The BPL list is erroneous. It included several senior state and central government officials residing in my ward. In various cases it has been found that the addresses of the beneficiaries mentioned in the list do not exist in the locality,” said Pradip Ghosh, leader of Congress in the KMC, at the monthly meeting of the board of councillors.
Other than wrong addresses and names, there were other mistakes in the list. In some cases the place where father’s name or husband’s name would be included were either left blank or written ‘Not Applicable’”, said Ratna Sur, a TMC leader and chairman of borough XIII.
Mala Ray, Congress councillor (ward 88) pointed out other anomalies in the BPL list. In many cases people who were living above the poverty line were included in the list and several people had given the same address in their application forms.
In some cases, every member of a family has sought for inclusion of his or her name in the list.
Moreover, it was also pointed out that in some cases photocopies of BPL forms were being submitted and not the original forms.
The councillors also alleged that instead of being submitted at the ward offices, the BPL forms were being submitted at the borough offices leading to problems of inclusion of names in the list of beneficiaries.
Meanwhile, Abu Sufiyan, Member Mayor-in-Council (Bustee), denied the allegations and said that the Left Front board was working with due seriousness on compiling the list.
