Conducted jointly by the Pune police, NASSCOM and Data Security Council of India (DSC I), it was at the session titled -Corporate security case study-during the workshop that Maheshwari spoke to professionals from IT companies and corporate firms on how a person who worked as a Vice President with the company stole the source code and committed a fraud causing the huge loss.

Earlier, assistant commissioner of police M P Karade gave a brief note of the case. Following this Maheshwari along with his colleague, elaborated on the details underlining the view that corporate companies need to learn to prevent such crimes. “There should be awareness programmes for the employees stressing on the punishments for violating the cyber laws,” he said.

Police Inspector Sudhakar Kate, who led the investigation team in Brainvisa case, shared his experiences and appealed to the professionals to be aware of the threat from insiders “ and come up with measures accordingly from preventing cyber frauds. “It is unsafe to misuse the cyber space. We arrested the accused in Brainvisa case in nine days after the complaint was lodged on November 20, 2008,” Kate said, adding, “Like Brainvisa, other companies should also trust the police. We are capable of cracking the cyber crimes.”

Earlier, the three day workshop was inaugurated in the presence of Pune police commissioner Satyapal Singh, state CID chief SPS Yadav, Ganesh Natrajan, Rajiv Vaishnav, Vice President of NASSCOM, Chairman of NASSCOM, Kamlesh Bajaj, CEO, DSCI, Shri Sardeshmukh, Additional Director General, MCCIA and Deputy Commissioner (cyber cell) Rajendra Dahale. Directorate of Information Technology (Government of India) has sponsored the event.

Sessions on various aspects of cyber crimes were conducted on the first day of the workshop. A special session on email crimes and investigations by Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Jadhav (state intelligence department) was organised for judiciary and public prosecutors. As many as 40 judges and 24 prosecutors participated attended the session.
