Patient drinks sulphuric acid, survives
Ludhiana: The SPS Apollo Hospitals claim to have performed a complex surgery to save the life of 38-year-old Balwinder Kaur (name changed), who was taken ill after she reportedly consumed sulphuric acid. The surgery was performed by a team of doctors comprising Dr Arindam Ghosh, Dr Disha Syal and Dr Gaurav Kuthiala, among others.
STEPS to hold aptitude test on August 1
Ludhiana: STEPS, the school programs wing of TCY, will hold an aptitude test for Class IX students on August 1. The purpose of the test is to identify and groom students for competitive exams. Viji Raj, senior faculty at STEPS, said: “ Students start preparing for competitive exams in Class XI. But, a majority of questions asked in many competitive exams are based on concepts learned in Classes IX and X. The purpose of this SmarTest-2010 is to identify talent.” SmarTest-2010 will be held simultaneously at both Sarabha Nagar and Baba Than Singh Nagar centres of STEPS. The test will be a combination test of science, maths and reasoning skills.
PCTE to receive Asia’s ‘best emerging B-school’ award
Ludhiana: Punjab College of Technical Education is all set to receive Asia’s Best Emerging B-school Award at an awards ceremony in Singapore. The ceremony is being organised by CMO Council, USA, at Suntec Singapore. Donovan Neale-May, executive director, CMO Council, USA, will be the chief guest on the occasion. Swapan Chanana, deputy director, PCTE, will receive the award on behalf of PCTE group. PCTE Group of Institutes director general Dr K N S Kang said the award is a result of sincere, dedicated and committed hard work of the faculty, staff and students of PCTE. Dr Kang said the award is very special as the institute has been successful in making its presence felt internationally.
Police commissioner urges residents to verify tenants, domestic helps
LUDHIANA: In a statement released on Wednesday, Police Commissioner Ishwar Singh has stated that despite repeated requests, city residents were not coming forward for police verification of tenants and domestic helps. “We have been making repeated appeals but people have shown little insterest despite the fact that several crimes are being committed by domestic helps. As we do not have the permanent address of the helpers, we cannot trace them,” said Singh. The commissioner added that the process has been made simpler and people can contact Ritesh Dhiman on 9876622797 or download a performa from www.ismic.org and submit it at the local police station.
