Kolkata Jute mill workers to join work on Feb 14
Following a two-month long shutdown, jute mill workers on Friday agreed to call off their strike from February 14 after unions and employers reached an accord over dues and productivity issues. A tripartite agreement was later signed in the presence of State Labour Minister Anadi Sahu. According to the agreement, the employers have agreed to increase the DA for workers and also pay their arrears in installments.

Former Bloc minister Chhaya Ghosh dies
Behrampore: Former minister and Forward Bloc leader Chhaya Ghosh died here on Friday after a prolonged illness. She was 70 and is survived by two daughters. Ghosh was the minister for relief from 1991 to 1996 and and for agriculture marketing department from 2001 to 2005. A former teacher of MMC Girls School, she was inducted into the party by late Hemanta Basu and was elected to the state legislature from Murshidabad Assembly constituency in 1977. Her relation with Bloc soured after she was denied a ticket for the 2006 Assembly election which led her to join the Janabadi Forward Bloc, a break away group of the Bloc.

Governor stresses on proper use of education grants
Burdwan: Funds for education were not used properly for the uplift of students from the backward sections, Governor M K Narayanan said here on Friday. “More talent would have emerged from the backward sections had the funds been spent for them,” he said at the convocation of Burdwan University.

The former National Security Advisor ruled out talks with “forces”’ trying to create problems in the state.
