Ludhiana, February 29 A slide show on urban land-scaping was organised by Dr Satish Narula, a Chandigarh-based senior extension specialist of PAU, in the committee room of the Vice-Chancellor today. “From dream to reality, his thoughts live to inspire”, were the opening remarks of Dr Narula while projecting landscaping of Chandigarh adding that the name ‘City beautiful’ is due to the efforts of Dr. M.S.Randhawa.

He said that Rose Garden was dear to Dr Randhawa’s heart who always emphasised love for nature and beauty. He projected beautiful landscapes of Chandigarh depicting grandeur of trees planted around avenues, as a screen, hedge, grooves etc. The trees provide shade, beauty, grandeur to the ambience in a colourful and appealing manner. The tastefully-created cascades and water falls in the landscaping provide a refreshment to mind and eyes, said Dr Narula.

The audience comprising Deans, Directors and Officers of the University was enthralled with the beautiful trees of Loharu, Lagerstroemia (Queen’s Flower), Kusum, Kadam, Magnolia etc. in bloom. Dr Narula displayed slides of some rare trees even as he lamented the growing lack of concern among public to take care of trees and other ornamental in the city. He said that injuring the trees by fixing nails, by cutting/breaking the limbs cruelly, by tightening wires girdling the stems or branches to hang hoardings on trees should be discouraged through some enforcement.

Speaking on the occasion, the PAU Vice-Chancellor appreciated the efforts of bringing the audience nearer to nature through projecting the city landscape scenes. He said that a team comprising Head, Department of Landscaping and Floriculture and Dr. Narula will design the facelift of PAU entrances through the art of landscaping.

Dr Jagtar Singh Dhiman, Additional Director of Communication, while proposing vote of thanks to the presenter said that the slide show was one of the items planned under a series of programmes to celebrate the birth centenary of Dr M.S.Randhawa, former PAU Vice-Chancellor, who was a keen promoter of landscaping.
