Dr Edward Crawfurd, senior orthopaedic consultant from Northampton General Hospital, UK, will be the star expert at the meet. A specialist in knee joint replacements and arthroscopic surgery, Dr Crawfurd will deliver lectures and perform live surgeries demonstrating latest techniques of ligament reconstruction surgeries using the ultra-modern operation facility at the Aditya Birla Hospital. “I have performed several ligament reconstruction and joint replacement surgeries. Some of the patients included players from football, rugby and cricket fields. In majority of the cases, my patients have been back on their feet in short period of time,” said Dr Crawfurd at a press conference at the hospital today.
Dr Crawfurd said he had a “nice tour” of the hospital and was impressed by the facilities put in place by the hospital. “The hospital has updated equipment of high standards,” he said. Citing heredity, age, obesity, lifestyle as the causes behind knee problems, Dr Crawfurd said exercise and a healthy live style can help individuals stay away from knee problems. “Cycling, swimming and walking are the best way to keep knee problems at bay,” he said, adding, he has relieved several of his patients — whether they were in 60,70,80s — of the excruciating knee pain.
Dr Anand Jadhav, a joint replacement and arthroscopy surgeon at Birla hospital, said the meet will help doctors upgrade their skills “Giving better results is our aim, not just doing the surgery. Quality of joints used and techniques practised in the surgery makes all the difference between a good and an average work of a surgeon,” he said. Pointing towards Dr Crawfurd, he said “ as the master will be at work tomorrow, it will benefit one and all.” Dr Ajit Garde was also present.
