BSF, Bengal advance

New Delhi, January 11 As expected hosts Border Security Force and Sikkim—the top two teams from Pool H — made it to the knock-out pre-quarter finals stage of the 56th BN Mullick All India Police Football Tournament.

Another strong contender for the title, Bengal defeated Jammu and Kashmir 2-1 in their last league match of Pool B to reach the knock-out stage.

BSF and Bengal have maintained a clean slate in the preliminary round and are likely to make it to the semi-finals.

Mizoram had it tough in Pool G, when they overcame Orissa 2-0 to advance. In the same group, Punjab faced some anxious moments before defeating Uttrakhand 1-0 to go through.

SSB, Assam Rifles, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Karnataka, Meghalaya, Nagaland, RPF, Assam Police and CISF are others in the knock out stage.

Results: (league matches) Nagaland draw with RPF 1-1; Meghalaya bt Manipur 2-1; Maharashtra bt Chandigarh 4-0; Mizoram bt Orissa 2-0; Chattisgarh lost to MP 1-2; Punjab bt Uttarakhand 1-0; Bengal bt J&K 2-1; Haryana draw with CISF 1-1; Pondicherry bt Gujarat 2-1; Rajasthan bt Tamil Nadu 1-0; Bihar draw with Tripura 0-0.
