BSNL Employees Union holds demonstration

Ludhiana, January 11 Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited Employees Union,Punjab circle, today held demonstrations all over the state in front of the offices of the respective General Manager Telecom of their area.

The protest was against the alleged indifferent attitude of the BSNL management towards the demands of the non-executives in BSNL. At Ludhiana, a massive demonstration was held in front of the General Manager’s office at Bharat Nagar.

Addressing the gathering, Balbir Singh, Circle Secretary BSNLEU Punjab circle, said that a meeting was scheduled with the management on January 10, to discuss the promotional policy for non-executives. He claimed that the management refused to discuss the matter, on the plea of BSNL’s financial position.

The protesters said that the union was demanding immediate settlement, and a strike notice was given in December 2007. Earlier, the management agreed to finalize the promotional policy by February end, but the staff representatives walked out in protest.

District Secretary Balwinder Singh urged the central leadership to go on an indefinite strike to settle the issue. He claimed that the management has already finalized the promotion policy for executives in BSNL and is ignoring the non-executives. Others who spoke on occasion included Paramjit Singh, district president; Budh Singh, circle cashier; Hari Narayan Singh, Balbir Singh Khanna, Avtar Singh Jhanday etc.
