Ludhiana The much-awaited Internet Protocol Television (ITPV) service of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), which was to be launched from the month of January has now been delayed by another two months.

The ITPV service will provide cable service to BSNL subscribers of the city along with Internet and broadband facilities.

According to official sources, BSNL has already started the soft launch of the service. “The commercial launch has been delayed due to some technical upgrading. It will be launched in the first week of March now,“said an official.

Rakesh Kumar, Deputy General Manager of BSNL, said, “The infrastructure is complete and the optical fiber cable network is being broadened at the Jalandhar end. When that is complete, the service will be launched commercially in the city.”

To start with, BSNL will provide 120 television channels to its broadband subscribers at a monthly rental of Rs 150. The subscriber will also have to deposit a security of Rs 999 for the set-top box (STB) and other accessories.

An officer said, “This service will be extended to other subscribers too (who do not have braodband at present). Through this service, subscribers will be able to get three facilities, i.e., broadband, ITPV and landline phone.”
