Kolkata CM on Chidambaram: He bungled Telengana... and now we are facing a rejuvenated demand for Gorkhaland

Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee took potshots at Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Sunday by saying that the whole country was disappointed with him for bungling the Telengana issue.

Bhattacharjee said this during his speech at the 43rd foundation day celebration of CPM mouthpiece Ganashakti held at the Centenary Hall of Calcutta University.

“Usually I don’t speak against Union ministers. But the Union Home minister has said in public that I have given a short answer to his long letter. That is exactly what I will do — the lengthier his letter will be, the shorter will be my answers. I will tell him this when I meet him,” Bhattacharjee said.

He added: “He (Chidambaram) was disappointed with the situation at Lalgarh, but what is the situation in other Naxalite-affected states? I don’t want to belittle any other state but you should keep that in mind. Is he saying this keeping in mind the alliance dharma? He says he is disappointed with us, I am telling him the whole country is disappointed with him for the way he bungled Telengana. I have told the Prime Minister how such an important decision was taken overnight. For this we now have a rejuvenated demand for Gorkhaland.”

About a week ago, Chidambaram had written to the chief minister and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee highlighting the law and order situation in West Bengal. On December 31, at a media conference, Chidambaram had said that he was disappointed with the situation at Lalgarh.

Bhattacharjee also used the occasion to tell his comrades to rectify the mistakes the party had made and return to the people. “If people are hurt on the issue of land, be alert. If the minorities are hurt try to understand their feelings, try to win them back,” he said.

The chief minister also rapped the Trinamool Congress’ call for “change” and said he did not know what kind of change they were talking about. “We have progressed in several sectors - agriculture, industry, land reforms and education. What kind of change do they want? Do they want to go back to that era of darkness? Is it a change from poverty to prosperity or vice versa?” Bhattacharjee asked.

CPM state committee secretary Biman Bose also addressed the gathering.

Gorkhaland demand has nothing to see with Telengana by binay sharma on 04 Jan 2010

please note the demand of Gorkhaland is not rejuvenated after the home minister statement over Telengana. we been asking since 1907 & recentely series of talkes are going on in this regards. the 4 tripartite talk was fixed on 21 Dec at Darjeeling much ealier than Telengana issue. we people from Darjeeling want freedom from Bengal. we wish all the best for the Telengana people but even centre decided to change their stand in this issue but we will surely continue untile we get it. from old to young, from all the communities we want freedom, and Bengal can no longer supress this legal demand.
