“The Left Front government has responsibilities towards the auto-owners. The government will not leave them in lurch. We are trying to find out a solution. We do not have any alternative other than banning two-stroke autos since it is the court’s verdict. But we will definitely appeal for extending the time span,” said Bhattacharjee at the 43rd anniversary celebrations of the Communist party mouthpiece Ganashakti.

Bhattacharjee criticised the Opposition’s role in politicising the issue and affecting the interests of the people.

“I do not know what the Opposition will get by burning state buses and destroying public property. It will not bring any solution to the problem. We have responsibilities towards our people and we will definitely find a solution of the problem,” added Bhattacharjee.

Left Front chairman Biman Bose condemned the irresponsible and aggressive attitude of the Opposition in the state. He said every problem is being complicated by the reckless acts of the Trinamool Congress.

“We never expected this kind of irresponsible behaviour from the main Opposition in the state. It is a democratic state and the Opposition has been given enough freedom to put forward its views. They never needed to opt for a sit-in demonstration in front of the chief minister’s house. It is a rare incident in the political history of the state,” said Bose.

“It is a conspiracy to mislead the common man and create instability within the state so that the Left Front in gets disturbed,” added Bose.

Senior CPM leaders feel that several agitations in the state, including at Nandigram, Singur, Lalgarh and demands for Gorkhaland are not scattered incidents but they have been created to isolate the Communist party in the country and weaken the Left Front government in the state.

“The incidents which happened in the past and what are happening now are not scattered ones. All these issues have been deliberately created to target the Communist parties. But we are ready to face the challenge,” said Prakash Karat, CPM general secretary.
