This friend was apparently not in favour of the wedding and it was later called off, the police said.
In an attempt to avenge this “humiliation, the accused, Surender Bhola (31), planted false evidences against his friend Abhishek Gujral, the police have found.
Bhola, cops said, left a copy of Gujral’s lost driving licence and letters addressed to the Delhi Police Commissioner and a TV channel on behalf of the deceased. The ‘evidences’ were planted on the deceased’s body, the police said.
The letters, purportedly written by the help though actually typed out by Bhola, claimed Gujral was blackmailing her by taking pictures of her in compromising positions.
“Bhola’s domestic help Sarwan was also involved in the crime. The accused left the NCR copy and two letters in the maid’s undergarments and threw the body on MB Road near Tughlakabad Fort,” said a senior police officer. “Gujral did not even know the maid.”
The deceased, Lipika, worked in several houses in Malviya Nagar. Her body was found in a plastic bag on December 29 on MB Road. Lipika knew many male servants in the area, including Sarwan, the police said.
The police interrogated Gujral after finding his driving license copy but the latter denied having any physical relation with the deceased. He also told the police that he never made any formal complaint regarding loss of his driving licence. The police later found that Gujral’s family had taken a loan of Rs 5 lakh from the accused’s family and promised to marry off their daughter to Bhola.
The police said the girl’s wedding was later arranged elsewhere. “Bhola was infuriated at this and decided to take revenge by defaming the Gujral family, in particular Abhishek, who was against this marriage from day one,” the police officer said.
Bhola filed a complaint regarding the loss of Abhishek’s driving licence and typed out two letters accusing Abhishek. He left the letters ‘signed’ by Lipika.
According to the police, his domestic help Sarwan then invited Lipika and the two strangulated her with an electric wire. “Thereafter, they electrocuted her,” the officer said. “They took her body in a Toyota Qualis and threw the body on MB Road.” Sarwan, the police said, is absconding.
“Bhola used to visit Abhishek at the police station to gather how the investigation was progressing,” the officer said. “He also wanted to find out whether the police had any evidence against him during these visits.”
