While the project contractor had submitted the revised drawing eight days ago, the underground cables, overhead wires and over two dozen trees are yet to be removed from the project site.
The MC has written to the administration departments concerned for removing the obstacles at the earliest.
In response, the departments have asked the MC to submit the reports through which the estimate for removing cables are being prepared.
Sources said that while the MC had earlier said that the construction period would be 18 months, the contractor is claiming that the work can be completed within 12 months after the approval of design.
Being constructed on Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis, the parking lot will provide total space for 1,200 cars of which eight per cent of space will be reserved for two wheelers.
The MC has decided to construct the first multi-level parking in the city, for which 6,700 square metres plot has been earmarked behind the Sahib Singh parking in Sector 17.
Nine per cent of total floor area will be used for the parking purposes.
While the basement and the ground floor area will be used as the parking lot, the first and second floors will be reserved for commercial purpose. A food court will also come up on the terrace.
Chief Engineer S K Bansal said that the earlier concept drawing and proposal had been submitted by the company which had been allotted the project last year, but it was returned with some objections after holding an discussion with the UT Chief Architect.
He said revised drawing was received eight days ago. “There are some hindrances like trees, underground cables and overhead wires which need to be removed before starting the work. We have asked the concerned department to remove them. The work will start in next two months.”
