“As their career cannot be put at stake, the university may allow the excess students to sit for theexaminations,” said Prof O P Kandari.
He, however, added: “Action will definitely be taken against college officials for admitting students more than the sanctioned strength.”
A member of the Academic Council and Admission Committee of the university said, “Students cannot be blamed in this case. The college administration is solely responsible for the admission anomaly. Considering this, we have recommended that students should be allowed to sit for the examinations.” The matter will be discussed in the university’s executive council meet, which will be held before the annual examinations begin on March 19.
Bundelkhand College had come under scanner for enrolling 23,000 students against the sanctioned 6,000 seats. The 17,000 excess students were admitted in graduate level courses like BA, BCom and LLB. At the time of admission, a fee of Rs 1,680 was charged from BA and BCom students and Rs 2,500 from LLB students.
In the preliminary investigation conducted by the university, it was revealed that excess forms were issued to Bundelkhand College. The university had already reported the matter to the state government, seeking its intervention.
