Pune An employee of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) was found hanging in a toilet block on the second floor of its headquarters in Shivajinagar on Wednesday morning. Chandrakant Dnyaneshwar Harsule, 56, was working as a clerk in the octroi department.

The police have recovered two letters from his pockets. Harsule had written both to his wife, Alka, stating that he was ending his life because of “work pressure” and “harassment” by a senior clerk in the PMC’s legal department.

Harsule, a resident of Mokate Nagar in Kothrud, was employed with the PMC for 33 years. He was suspended from service in May 2002. In his suicide note, Harsule said he was suspended because of a mistake by the senior clerk. Also in January 2007, Harsule said he failed to keep a confidential document properly in the PMC records. For this lapse, he was reprimanded and it put him under mental pressure, the note said.

Harsule said a senior clerk in legal department had taken this confidential document from him, but did not make a mention in the register. He alleged the senior clerk also forced him to work till late in the evening.

A relative said Harsule’s son Mayur had searched for him the entire night when Harsule did not return home on Tuesday.

In one of his letters, Harsule has requested the municipal commissioner to provide job to his son in the PMC. Harsule has reportedly mentioned that his soul would not rest in peace till his son gets a job in the PMC.

A case has been registered with the Shivajinagar police.
