Chandigarh “The Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) is set to increase its workforce from 260 to 650,” said Prasun Mukherjee, Director General of BPR&D, who was in town to attend the third national conference on Women in Police.

Mukherjee took charge of the department about 20 days ago.

BPR&D is also looking at infrastructural expansion. “About five acres of land in Mahipalpur and two plots in Kanpur and Ahmedabad have been bought for setting up a Central Detective Training School. As for the National Academy of Training & Trainers in Bhopal, it will see an addition of 400 acres of land in the future,” says Mukherjee.

With research and development gaining more importance in the wake of the terror attacks, Mukherjee feels that the department should have more specialists.

“Right from psychologists to ammunition experts, we need them all,” he said.
