Lucknow After a year-long silence, the bureaucrats of the state have once again raised the issue of their arbitrary suspension.

According to the IAS Association, 295 officers have been suspended since 1990. In its executive body meeting held this week, the members demanded the government to follow principle of law and give a chance to the officer — who they want to suspend — to explain his point of view.

The Association will also request Chief Minister Mayawati for permission to celebrate “Service Week” on April 2 and 3. Since the service week is traditionally opened by the CM and twice Mayawati has denied permission, the Association has not celebrated the occasion last year. In the resolution passed in the meeting, the members decided to organise a mini week of one day in case they were denied permission again.

The members were also against proposal to introduce the police commisionerate system. The Association has listed a few other demands as well. They included posting of IAS officers as municipal commissioners in KAVAL (Kanpur/Agra/Varanasi/Allahabad/Lucknow) towns and also their posting as state Chief Information Commissioner. These issues will now be forwarded to the government for its consideration.
