Burglars broke into a house in Khar and looted jewellery worth Rs 1,12,000 and Rs 5 lakh in cash, said the police. The house owner Neela Raheja was away from her home to visit her daughter and son-in-law.

According to the police, Raheja found the latch of the door broken, when she reached her home on Tuesday after her 10-day visit.

As per her complaint, thieves broke open a cupboard and a safe to steal the valuables. The Khar police have registered a case of house-breaking.

Raheja lives at Lohiya Kunj in Khar and left for her son-in-law Gopal Talreja’s house on January 11. She stayed there till Tuesday afternoon. Following the incident, she approached the Khar police along with her son-in-law to file a complaint. When contacted, the police said that the investigation is still in the preliminary stages. “So far, we don’t suspect any gang of thieves in this case,” said Police Sub-Inspector M Kohli of the Khar police station.
