Lucknow, February 4 Two miscreants shot dead a DTC bus driver and snatched Rs 44 lakhs from a passenger in an area under the Muradnagar police station of Ghaziabad district on Monday.

The passenger, Sunar Sunil, a resident of Meerut, is a gold trader and frequently travels to New Delhi from Meerut by road.

According to DGP office sources, the bus was on its way to New Delhi from Meerut on Monday morning. While the two men had boarded the bus in Meerut, their associates were in an Alto car, which was following the bus.

When the bus reached the area under Ghaziabad’s Muradnagar police station, the criminals tried to snatch the bag full of money from Sunil. Bus driver Pritam and Sunil tried to resist them and the miscreants opened fire, killing Sunil on the spot. Later, the criminals took the money and escaped by the same Alto, the police said.

Additional Director General of Police Brij Lal said efforts are on to arrest the miscreants. Police suspect the involvement of Sunil’s associate in the incident.

“Sunil used to carry a lot of money while travelling in a bus. He frequently visits Delhi in connection with his business. He purchases gold in Delhi and brings the same to Meerut,” Meerut Xone IG V K Gupta said.
