Pune The cabinet meeting addressed by Chief Minister Ashok Chavan on Wednesday announced the pay hike for tehsildars. This was among the demands put forth by the federation of tehsildars and naib tehsildars who had threatened to go on mass leave from February 20 if the demands were not met. The members had gone on mass leave on February 16 and had threatened to go on strike from February 20. Their demands included pay hike and equalising the pay scale of circle officers and upper division clerks.

"Only one of our demands was addressed. The remaining has been put before a committee who will assess the pay scale at various levels. Now, our federation will decide the future course of action," said deputy collector Prakash Kadam.

The federation had decided to stop performing non-revenue works like issuing domicile certificates, voters list compilation and manning citizen facilitation centers.

The mass strike on February 16 had hampered the daily works at the district collector's office and the office of the revenue department. Many of the non-revenue works at both the departments, such as general administration, co-operative, rural development, food and urban supply schemes are being done by the revenue officers.
