Lucknow Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the state Cabinet on Thursday announced the setting up of Obra-C, a new thermal plant with an installed capacity of 1,000 mw, in Mirzapur district.

The Rs 6,175-crore project will be executed by the Uttar Pradesh Power Generation Corporation. While 30 per cent of the project will be funded by the state government, the remaining will be met by borrowing from financial institutions and banks.

The Cabinet also approved setting up of a 30 mw hydroelectric power project in Lalitpur district. The project will be executed by the Tehri Hydro Development Corporation.

For mobilising additional resources, the Cabinet decided to increase the rate of royalty and dead rent levied on mining of stones and sand under the UP Minerals (Concession) Rules, 1963. The hike will fetch an additional Rs 200 crore.

For the treatment of former legislators at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science in Lucknow, the government has decided to set up a revolving fund of Rs 50 lakh.

The Cabinet also granted in principal approval for seeking funds from the World Bank for the third phase of the UP Sodic Land Reclamation Project. A total of 5.92 lakh hectares of alkaline land and 9.13 lakh hectares of barren and waste land are proposed to be reclaimed in the third phase.

The UP Land Reclamation Corporation — the implementing agency — has prepared a project implementation plan of Rs 1,432 crore. Of this, while the government will seek Rs 939 crore from the World Bank, the rest will be funded by the state.
