After reading out the adjournment motion, Trinamool Congress member Ashoke Deb sought the Speaker’s permission for a discussion on the same.
The Speaker, however, rejected the request prompting the entire Trinamool bench to walk out in protest.
The leaders staged a sit-in outside the House, sported placards and raised slogans demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee over the “state’s deteriorating law and order”.
Congress Legislative Party leader Manas Bhuinya said that Congress chief whip Asit Mal also wanted to move an adjournment motion on the same issue, but the Speaker adjourned the House for recess without allowing a discussion.
Trinamool talks law and order with Pranab, Chidambaram
New Delhi: The Trinamool Congress held discussions on the law and order situation in West Bengal with Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Home Minister P Chidambaram, hours after raising the issue in the Lok Sabha. “We discussed the issue of indiscriminate police firing on innocent people in the name of fighting the Maoists. The incident occurred in Salboni area where one person was killed and five others were injured,” said party chief whip in Lok Sabha Sudip Bandopadhyay. He said Chidambaram assured them that he would enquire about the matter. Earlier, in the day, MPs of the Trinamool Congress and Left Front today clashed in the Lok Sabha over the situation in Bengal, forcing a brief adjournment of the House.
Sikha Mitra faints inside Assembly
Trinamool Congress legislator Shikha Mitra, wife of former West Bengal PCC chief Somen Mitra, fainted inside the assembly premises on Friday after she tripped over at the stairs of the Assembly main gate.
She was attended to by the Assembly doctor besides CLP leader Manas Bhuniya and Trinamool member Sudipto Roy who are also doctors.
