Kolkata The Trinamool Congress on Friday staged a walkout from the West Bengal Assembly after Speaker Hasim Abdul Halim disallowed a discussion on an adjournment motion moved by the party on the violence reported in student union elections in some colleges.

After reading out the adjournment motion, Trinamool Congress member Ashoke Deb sought the Speaker’s permission for a discussion on the same.

The Speaker, however, rejected the request prompting the entire Trinamool bench to walk out in protest.

The leaders staged a sit-in outside the House, sported placards and raised slogans demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee over the “state’s deteriorating law and order”.

Congress Legislative Party leader Manas Bhuinya said that Congress chief whip Asit Mal also wanted to move an adjournment motion on the same issue, but the Speaker adjourned the House for recess without allowing a discussion.
