Pune “Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) being one of the prime cantonments of India, my effort as its chief will be towards making it the number one cantonment in the nation,” said D K Malik, the new chief executive officer (CEO) on Wednesday. He added that streamlining vehicular movement and taking further the process to create new parking lots in camp area would be done on priority.

Malik said that other grave issues like attacks on the Board’s Nuisance Prevention Squad would be tackled with assistance from the police. He, however, refused to reveal his stand on the demand to moderate Floor Space Index (FSI). He said, “Decisions on the FSI issue would be arrived keeping in mind the public interest.”

Malik is an Indian Defence Estate Service (IDES) officer of the 1985 batch, has been an under secretary in the Justice Verma Commission enquiring the Rajiv Gandhi assassination. He has also served in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Personnel Affairs besides serving as CEO in seven Cantonment Boards and as Defence Estate Officer (DEO) in 3 Cantonments across the country.

While addressing the staff members, outgoing PCB chief S K Sardana recalled that his initial six months as the Board head was dominated by litigations and writ petitions. “I got a feeling that I was not at all welcome in the office,” he said. However, with successfully tackling issues such as delimitation and conducting elections after a gap of 11 years changed the work environment.

Vice President of PCB Prasad Kedari welcomed Malik hoping that the new administrator should fasten the process of implementing the relaxation of FSI, which is a long pending public demand.
