* Indian Penal Code crime declined by 12.82 per cent, while heinous crime fell by 12.13 per cent in Delhi

* The overall success rate of crime-solving increased from 89.35 per cent in 2007 to 90.14 per cent in 2008, Delhi Police stats say.

* There was an increase in murder cases in 2008— 518 from 467 2007.

* Out of 518 cases, 17 per cent were due to sudden provocation, 8 per cent due to existing rivalry, 16 per cent were passion-triggered, 9 per cent were due to differences among family members and 11 per cent were due to disputes triggered by property/money matters.

* Success rate of solving murders increased to 82.24 per cent from 77.94 per cent in 2007.

* 891 people were arrested in murder cases, among which 95 per cent were novices, 93 per cent illiterate, school dropouts or had received education till Class X, 57 per cent were less than 25 years of age and 81 per cent belonged to the lower economic strata.

* Police station-wise breakup shows that no murder case was registered at 31 police stations in Delhi, while 260 (50 per cent) murder cases were reported at 29 police stations. Seventy-four police stations recorded 88 per cent of all murder cases.

* Cases of attempt to murder decreased to 367 from 499 in 2007.

* There was a marginal decline in robbery cases, from 88.55 per cent to 87.17 per cent.

* Cases of snatching increased to 1,318, as against 1,201 in 2007.

* Rapes went down by 22.03 per cent in 2008.

* Molestation cases also decreased to 590 cases from 835 cases in 2007.

* Motor vehicle thefts saw a marked increase —9,895 theft cases were registered against 8,039 in 2007.
