A special “migratory card” — devised mainly for children working at brick kilns and construction sites — will be issued to them by the Education for All (EFA) department. The department has already identified the children.

“Owing to migration, these children are forced to discontinue their studies. This card will now enable them to continue with their education even when they go to another district,” said an EFA official. A similar project is already operating in Gujarat and will soon begin in Maharashtra.

Instructions have been issued to the respective Basic Shiksha Adikaris and Nagar Shiksha Adhikaris to ensure that students between Classes I and VIII receive the card by next week, he added.

The cards will include the student’s educational status and personal profile. The areas covered will be family details, age, duration of study in the district and education level achieved while joining and leaving the centre.

“Officials of the district from where the child has moved will inform the officials of the district where he or she is going. This will also help keep track of the student’s movement,” said the official.

The facility will also help do away with formalities like producing a certificate issued from the previous school or problems related to students joining mid-session.
