Carnage on tracks: CBI visits Sardiha, grills accused on spot

Kolkata The CBI team investigating the Jnaneswari train disaster, visited the accident site at Sardiha on Wednesday alongwith three arrested persons — Khagen Mahato, Samir Mahato and Hiralal Mahato.

The agency has already completed the forensic probe on the accident which claimed 148 lives.

The forensic investigation was carried out by Keshab Kumar, head of the technical and forensic coordination department which worked directly under director, CBI. But the team is yet to specify when the report will be available. The team is likely to return Delhi on Thursday.

The site visit at Sardiha lasted for over three hours. The agency officials interrogated the accused on the spot.

The CBI started the probe from June 10.

On June 11, the team visited the accident site for the first time. Around 20 officials are conducting the probe from a camp in the railway premises at Kharagpur. All the three accused are in CBI custody at Kharagpur.
