Ghaziabad Hoisting the Tricolour upside down on the Republic Day has landed a Ghaziabad school in trouble. A citizen has filed a complaint against Delhi Public School, Meerut Road, in the court of Additional Chief Justice-I for showing disrespect to the national flag. The case will come up for hearing on February 4.

According to Ajay Veer Chowdhary, the counsel of the complainant, Anil Aggarwal, the school did not take note of the faux pas when the matter was first brought to its notice. “Noticing the flag fluttering upside down, Anil, being an aware and responsible citizen of the country, went to the school but the guard stopped him at the gate. He told the guard about the mistake, but nobody in the school took notice,” said Chowdhary.

The school rectified its mistake only after the district administration intervened. “Around 2.30 pm, the school hoisted the flag in the right manner,” added Chowdhary.

The complainant, however, criticised the district administration for not registering an FIR against the school. In his complaint to the court, the school has been charged under the relevant Section of the Prevention of Insult to National Honour Act, 1971, 2(E).

Rita Kapoor, principal of the school, said she did not know of the episode. “I don’t know anything about the case. If you need any other information regarding any issue, please contact other officials of the school,” she said.
