The police have arrested five of the minister’s accomplices — Parshuram Yadav, Madan, Chhihatar Singh, Krishna Singh and Kailash Chandra — and have seized three vehicles. They have, however, been released on bail.
The minister, along with his accomplices was campaigning in the Morena district on November 21, without obtaining any permission from the state Election Commission. He was also allegedly using two of his department’s vehicles for campaign purposes, which is yet another violation of the model code.
“No minister can enter the district without taking the permission from the authorities concerned during the election time,” said Pravin Asthana, Station House Officer (SHO), Morena Kotwali.
The case has been lodged under Sections 188 and 171 (A) of the IPC, besides 123 of the Representation of the People Act at the Morena Kotwali police station, said Santosh Kumar, Superintendent of Police.
The police are still on the lookout for two more vehicles, which were a part of the minister’s cavalcade.
“The police have given the registration number of the two vehicles to the court. The seized vehicles were released today after the court order,” said Umakant, Diwan of Morena Kotwali.
Chief Minister Mayawati has engaged her several ministers and the party legislator for campaigning in the assembly elections of Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Singh was, however, not available to comment on the issue.
