Pune, January 5 Even after a row in the last few days over the issue of the advance payment by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) for the four proposed flyovers in the city, municipal commissioner Praveensinh Pardeshi has again tabled a proposal before the standing committee to hand over Rs 1.5 crore as advance amount to the irrigation department for desilting of Mula-Mutha rivers between the stretch of Sangam Bridge and Bundgarden.

The desilting project is to be carried out under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). The proposal tabled before the standing committee states that the work of desilting the river stretch is to be carried out with the help of the irrigation department. The irrigation department would provide the necessary machinery used for the purpose, which would cost Rs 2.15 crore. While seeking approval for the total amount, the proposal also asks to give Rs 1.5 crore as advanced amount to the irrigation department and pay the remaining amount in a phase-wise manner.

Considering the tardiness in tabling the annual PMC budget, owing to the civic elections in February last year, the commissioner has also sought permission to table his draft budget a little later than the usual time this year as well. Generally, as per the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporation Act, 1949, the commissioner has to present his draft budget before January 15. But due to the elections last year, he submitted it by July end. So he has sought permission to present it by February 10.

Pardeshi has also sought the permission to keep the PMC reserves of Rs seven crore in IDBI, HDFC or a nationalised bank to get maximum interest rate.
