Mumbai The Matunga police are conducting enquiries to trace robbers who broke into a house at Parsi colony and decamped with Rs 90,000 cash and valuables worth Rs 9,25,500 on Saturday evening.

Senior Police Inspector Sunil Deshmukh from Matunga police station said, “The theft took place on Saturday evening when the complainant, Porus Mestri (48), had gone out with his family to Nashik. On Sunday morning, the neighbours noticed the broken latch of Mestri’s door and suspected foul play. They immediately informed the police.”

“We are questioning the people in the building if they saw any one moving around suspiciously in the area. We have learnt that two men on a motorcycle were seen near the building on Saturday. It is also possible that burglars had kept an eye on the family. The incident happened on the very day the family left for Nashik” said Sunil Deshmukh.

Another police official of Matunga police station said that a few months ago, there had been a theft in the Hindu colony in Matunga where two people were seen doing recce of the victim’s house.

“We are investigating whether this is the work of the same burglars as in both cases, the recce was done by two men on a bike,” he added.
