Kolkata, January 8 Results of the Common Admission Test (CAT) were declared on Tuesday, ending the wait for around 12,000 aspirants who had appeared for the examination on November 18.

This time as the candidates have to log on to www.catiim.in site for the IIMs result, students and coaching centres in the city faced some delays, which added to the confusion.

Although, through SMS the students could ascertain their percentile marks, Sunny Lyngdoh, a student who scored 98.85 percentile, came to know about his admission status to any IIM only after hours as he could not open the main website.

According to experts, the number of students making it to the IIMs from the city will marginally increase between 100 and 110 with a slight increase in the number of seats at the IIM.

However, the exact picture can be ascertained only tomorrow afternoon, they said.

“This time, the success mantra will be good in quantitative ability and some luck in verbal ability,” said Rahul Reddy, Director TIME Kolkata.

The IIM Calcutta has called 998 students for group discussion and personal interview for the 300 seats. The overall cut off for open category has been 98.96 percentile with 95.02 percentile in quantitative aptitude, 95.07 in data interpretation and 94.70 in verbal ability.

In the 223 general category seats, the institute has called

783 students. For 45 Scheduled Castes (SC) seats, the institute has called 157 candidates with an overall cut off of 85.12 percentile, 85.27 percentile in quantitative aptitude, and 65.69 percentile in verbal ability and 66.10 in data interpretation.

The institute has called 41 students for the 23 seats under the Scheduled Tribes (ST) category, as it could not get the exact 3.7 times students with the overall cut off of 81.85 percentile with 85.27 percentile in quantitative aptitude, 62.02 in verbal ability and 58.65 percentage in data interpretation.

For physically challenged candidates, the cut off has been the same with 17 students called for nine seats.

Asish Bhattacharya, In-charge of admission at IIM-Calcutta, said that 90 per cent of the candidates called are engineers while 10 per cent are women.

“This year, 23 OBCs, four SCs and one ST candidates have qualified as general candidates for IIM-Calcutta,” said Bhattacharya. The group discussion and personal Interview for IIM-Calcutta will be held in mid-March.
