Kolkata A CBI team raided offices in the Haldia Dock Complex (HDC) area last night in connection with the investigation into the alleged illegal mining operations of the two Karnataka ministers that started on Thursday, sources said.

The probe into the dealings of the firm owned by Reddy brothers — Tourism minister G Janardhana Reddy and Revenue minister G Karunakara Reddy - was ordered by the Centre.

Senior port officials said the CBI team had visited the dock area to find out whether the Reddy brothers had traded the iron-ore through the Haldia dock. “There was no raid. They merely came to ask a few questions as a part of their on-going investigation,” said A Majumdar, acting-chairman, KoPT.

Officials said the CBI has not found anything concrete so far in the port area since the Reddy brothers did not trade through the Kolkata port.

The CBI has registered a case against the two firms of the brothers - the Obulapuram Mining Company and the Bellary Iron Ore Pvt Ltd in — connection with illegal and unauthorised mining as well as the sale of the iron-ore.

Niladri Chakrabarty, additional SP, East Midnapore, said: “I have heard a special team visited Haldia dock yesterday although I am not aware of the reasons.”
