Sources in the police have said that most of the Rs 15.1 crore allotted in 2008-2009 to Kolkata will be used for upgrading weapons, increasing the number of bullet-proof jackets and closed-circuit cameras in the city.
According to sources, all the 48 police stations under Kolkata Police will be upgraded with modern weapons to combat any kind of terrorist threat. They added that it was proposed in the meeting that every police station will have at least 10 modern weapons along with 10 bullet-proof jackets.
Around 254 areas have been marked sensitive where CCTV surveillance will be maintained at all times.
