Nawanshahr Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Ravinder Kaur Bhatti has been booked under Section 409 of the IPC for embezzling government ration meant for anganwadi centres.

On January 28 about 7:30 pm, the Nawanshahr police had confiscated over 1.5 quintals of ration from outside the house of the CDPO. The ration included 50 kgs each of rice, sugar and ghee, a milk tin and 'panjiri', which belonged to the office of CDPO and was to be delivered at one of the anganwadi centres. Notably, Zila Parishad had marked an inquiry into the incident. Nawanshahr SHO Rakesh Kumar said after investigation, they found the CDPO guilty. He added that her office watchman, Bikkar Singh, had said in his affidavit to the police that he carried the ration to CDPO's residence on a rickshaw on her orders.

Bikkar also said when he reached her residence, she asked him to take the ration back to office.

However, Bhatti, in her statement, claimed that the ration belonged to Manji Sahib Centre on Banga road and the watchman couldn't locate it so he came to her house.
